Here's our plan to build a secret weapon for climate activism while profitably clowning the stock market:
🀝 Build a community that invests together in a fund
πŸ’° The fund buys one new stock per month
🌍 We demand that the company take climate action
πŸ“ˆ If they agree, we promote them, boosting their sales & stock price
πŸ“‰ If they refuse, we sell the stock & then destroy their company
πŸ€‘ In theory, the fund could outperform the market
🌱 Accelerate climate solutions
πŸŽƒ Hack capitalism
We need to know how much people will invest when we launch our fund:
πŸš€ The answer so far is $759,372.
πŸ‘‹ Good people!
Within you is a scream for emergency action on climate. Every day you suppress the scream because you have nothing new to say and people don't want to hear it. But if you believe this idea can change things forever, and drive critical climate impact, then today's the day to scream.
πŸ‘‹ Greedy people!
Do you know what happens if our fund hits $1 billion? We identify the 4,766 people like you who did the best job of sharing their link and each person gets a minimum of $1,000 with some getting $5k, $10k, $25k, and $50k. Yes, it's insane. Details are here.

Governments, consumers & investors have failed to force companies to take significant climate action.

What's ESG?
Close
ESG is short for "environmental, social, and corporate governance." The initial meaning of the term was about an approach to investing that evaluated risk based on these three factors. These days "ESG" is just a term that funds will use to describe themselves if they want to market themselves as somehow being "socially responsible." Conservatives are mad at ESGΒ because it represents liberal values. Liberals are mad at ESG funds because they will often consider a company like Exxon to be "good" just because they have high quality governance practices. ESGΒ is powerful in theory but weak in execution.
ESGΒ funds hold $35 trillion. None of them can claim responsibility for a single reduction of corporate emissions.
What's an ETF?
Close
ETF stands for "exchange-traded fund." If you have heard of a mutual fund this is similar except it's more modern and simple. If you use an app for buying shares of stock in companies listed on a stock exchange, you can buy and sell shares in an ETFΒ in the exact same way. You will own shares in the ETF, which represent shares in many other companies. The fund manager invests in all the other companies, and if the value of those companies goes up, so does the value of your ETFΒ shares. There is no minimum required investment and you can buy or sell whenever you want.
Trick or Treat is creating an outrageous ETF that will drive specific emissions reductions while aiming to financially outperform the largest existing ETFs.
Our fund will invest in companies and then ask them to take specific climate actions.

If they say yes, a TREAT:

Millions of us cooperate to give them an amazing promo campaign, which hopefully raises the stock price, causing our fund to make lots of money.

If they say no, a TRICK:

We sell the stock and then relentlessly attack them, permanently destroying their brand as punishment.

We hold seven beliefs that must be true for this to work. Let's see if you share them:

Belief #1

Companies that rely on having good consumer brands will be more likely to succeed if their brand is beloved, and more likely to fail if their brand is hated.

Belief #2

The public already has more power to define what brands represent than companies do.

Belief #3

A large online community with a shared purpose can now exert organized and coordinated control over brands, creating or destroying billions of dollars worth of brand equity at will.

Belief #4

Whenever such a large and committed network takes action with the intention of celebrating or destroying the brand of a small/medium publicly-traded company, they will consistently be able to significantly impact the stock price.

Belief #5

There are millions of people who would invest in an ETF that offered the potential for superior returns, superior climate impact, fun community, and ridiculous entertainment.

Belief #6

Even though companies are generally unwilling to take radical climate action, they will often override that tendency and submit to the demands of a community like this if they believe that the net impact of agreeing to take action will be obviously positive for their business.

Belief #7

Everyone will want to make money buying and selling stock based on whether we will "trick" or "treat" the company. Our fund has exclusive access to that information before anyone else, therefore we can financially outperform anyone else trading the same stock at the same time.

Do you share these beliefs?
Hello skeptics
At this point, half of you are delighted and the other half are skeptical. The skeptics tend to constantly scan for red flags, and in the last 60 seconds they had thoughts like:
If you have similar thoughts you have almost certainly – and quite understandably – made some wildly false assumptions. Please read the "Top 10 Things That Skeptics Say" and rejoin us here when you're ready.
This model represents an unprecedented opportunity for climate impact by introducing two new financial incentives:

Companies will know that taking climate actions that are uncomfortably radical will have large, reliable, and easily-quantifiable financial and marketing benefits, including the avoidance of an existential brand risk.

Fund investors will know that every time they participate in our community efforts to promote a brand that has taken climate action, the success of that promotion may return to them a couple percent of whatever amount they have invested in the fund.

These incentives could transform the stock market from being the #1 enemy of climate action to being a tool we use to essentially mandate corporate actions that governments are unwilling to mandate.
